Questions, answered
Do I need a credit card to start the trial?
Yes. A valid card is required to start your 14-day free trial, but nothing is charged on the day you sign up.
When will I be charged?
When the trial ends on day 14, unless you cancel before then. After that you’re billed US$69 per user each month — or US$708 per user each year if you choose yearly billing — plus any tax that applies.
What happens if I cancel?
You can cancel any time from Billing. Your library becomes read-only, and documents you’ve already written keep their citations and bibliography as ordinary text — nothing disappears from your Word files.
Which versions of Word does it work with?
Word on the web, Word for Windows and Word for Mac with Microsoft 365. There’s one add-in for everyone, and it shows whichever workspace you sign into. See the install guide.
Can we import our library from Mendeley, EndNote or Zotero?
Yes. Export a RIS or BibTeX file from any of them and import it into Citepool. Duplicates are detected and skipped, so existing references are never overwritten.
How is our data secured?
PDFs are stored privately and only served through short-lived signed links. Everyone signs in with Microsoft, Google or Apple, so there are no Citepool passwords to leak, and access is controlled by workspace roles. Read the privacy policy for details.
Can I change the number of users?
Any time. Add or remove users as your team changes and billing is prorated automatically. There’s no lock-in contract.
Does Citepool include AI?
AI is optional. Citepool works with the Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot subscription your team already has, and the built-in Ask your library and Check citations features use your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key. Citepool doesn’t charge for AI or resell it — AI usage is billed by your AI provider. AI can be wrong, so answers come with numbered sources and flagged citations are there for you to double-check.
Can we see who changed a reference?
Yes. Every change to a reference is recorded — who made it, when, and the before and after of each field. Undo any edit with one click (it never overwrites newer edits), and restore deleted references from the Activity page. Word documents citing a restored reference reconnect on their next refresh.
Is tax included in the price?
No — US$69 per user per month is before tax. Stripe adds whatever applies where you are (such as GST or VAT) at checkout, based on your billing address. Businesses can add a VAT or GST number so it appears on invoices, and reverse charge applies where it should.
What currency are we charged in?
US dollars, wherever you are — US$69 per user per month before tax. If your card is in another currency, your bank converts it at its usual rate.
